Last Chance for Adults to Sit KCSE: Ministry Urges Enrolment

Adults who want a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) have one examination left under the 8-4-4 system. The 2026 KCSE is the second-last, and the final examination will be sat in 2027. Murang’a South Sub-County Adult and Continuing Education Officer Isaac Macharia is urging adult learners to enrol in adult education programmes now.

Why 2027 matters

Macharia said adult learners who want to sit the final 8-4-4 examination in 2027 still have an opportunity to register. They can do so once the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) opens its registration window.

Who is sitting the 2026 KCSE

The 2026 KCSE has 1,048,355 candidates across the country. In Murang’a County, 100 adult learners are sitting the examination. Murang’a South Sub-County accounts for 22 of them.

What adult education centres offer

Macharia said adult education centres offer more than literacy lessons. They provide basic education programmes and a route to further academic qualifications. In his view, adult learning goes beyond the classroom and builds practical skills for literacy, economic independence and self-reliance.

Adult learning extends beyond the classroom and equips learners with practical skills that foster literacy, economic independence and self-reliance.

What adults who missed secondary school can do

Macharia urged adults who missed the chance to complete secondary education to join the available learning programmes and prepare to register for the 2027 examination. Learners can ask their sub-county adult and continuing education office about centres near them. KNEC will announce when the registration window opens.
