Police in Kisii County are searching for an officer who went missing after students at Nyabisase Secondary School in Bobasi attacked a team monitoring the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations. The attack took place on Thursday 5 November 2026. Kisii County Police Commander Ronald Kirui confirmed the incident and said several officials of the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) and police officers were injured.
What police have said
The team was a multi-agency group of officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), KNEC and the National Intelligence Service. Police said it visited the school after a KNEC official reported suspected examination malpractice. The students attacked the officials and officers before the investigators arrived.

- Students seized a police officer’s private vehicle, damaged it and took belongings from inside.
- An officer’s whereabouts became unknown during the attack, and the search for him is continuing.
Police have deployed anti-riot officers to the school to restore calm. DCI officers from Nyamache have visited the school. Investigations cover the alleged examination malpractice, the assault on the team, the damage to property and the officer’s disappearance.
