The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has shortlisted five candidates for the position of Secretary and Chief Executive Officer. Acting CEO Evaleen Mitei is among those invited for interviews.

In a notice issued on Tuesday 3 November 2026, the commission said it received 124 applications when it reopened recruitment for the post previously held by Nancy Macharia, who left office in June 2025.

Who is on the TSC CEO shortlist?

The five shortlisted candidates are:

  • Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) self-declaration forms
  • other supporting documents

How can the public comment on the candidates?

TSC has invited members of the public to submit credible information about the shortlisted applicants. Submissions must be made through sworn affidavits, delivered to TSC headquarters or sent by email, by Friday 13 November 2026. The deadline falls three days before the interviews.

Why TSC restarted the recruitment

The current exercise follows a fresh advertisement issued on 29 September 2026. The High Court had nullified the earlier hiring process over procedural irregularities.

In its ruling of 17 September, the court found that the first advertisement gave applicants 13 days to apply, below the minimum of 14 days required under the commission’s human resource guidelines. The judges also faulted TSC for not stating the proposed remuneration for the post, and ordered the process to begin afresh.

Applications in the new exercise closed on 30 October. Candidates were required to hold a degree in education and have at least 10 years of relevant professional experience, including five years in senior management.
