Kenyan teachers are represented mainly by two trade unions: KNUT, formed in 1957, and the KUPPET, registered in 1998. Both were set up to defend teachers' pay, terms of service and working conditions, and both have won gains through collective bargaining with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
