KNEC Portal Procedures for Upload of Learning Continuity in Basic Education (LCBE) Assessments.
The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has indicated the steps to upload learning continuity in basic education assessment results for the 2026 cycle via their online platform.
The steps are for all basic educational institutions which are supposed to submit assessment results of learners in basic education using the Competency-Based Assessment model.
The LCBE evaluation tool is an electronic evaluation tool offered and conducted by KNEC to aid in learning and assessment of progress in Foundation, Intermediate, and Upper Primary levels by using online and offline submission tools.
The assessment results are supposed to be put into the KNEC guidelines and records within the National Education Management Information System.
Offline Procedure for Uploading LCBE Assessments
Through offline upload, institutions are mandated to download a controlled Microsoft Excel template from the KNEC portal, fill it with assessment information for learners, and upload it for validation or submission. The steps involved in offline upload are as follows:
• Visit the LCBE KNEC login portal page and use your official login credentials provided by the Kenya National Examinations Council.
• Ensure the school’s institutional details match precisely with the data contained within the National Education Management Information System (NEMIS).
• Go to the CBA Assessment or LCBE Assessment.
• Identify and select the relevant grade level and corresponding assessment to be uploaded.
• Download the official upload template for LCBE if applicable.
• Submit learner scores in strictly KNEC format and in a manner in which learners' names, admission numbers, and IDs correspond to those in the NEMIS system.
• Select "Upload File" and pick your finished template.
• Enable file validation in the system.
• Upload file
• Submit
• Go back to the assessment list to check that your status is recorded as "Submitted."
Online Process for Uploading Assessment in LCBE
The online submission process will facilitate the direct entry of learner outcomes via an interface accessible through the KNEC portal where reliable internet connectivity is available. The steps involved include:
• Open a browser and navigate to the Kenya National Examinations Council portal.
• Select the LCBE portal option under the PRIMARY SCHOOLS (Kenya Certificate of Primary Education) heading.
• Use the login credentials provided by KNEC through the school, with the username being mostly school code.
• Go to the "Assessment Outcomes/Scores" page, which is the fourth option in the menu on the portal.
• Identify the corresponding assessment and press the "Capture Outcome" button.
• Enter scores for learners based on the learners shown in the learners list by selecting learners and entering scores in the marked fields.
• Press ‘Update’ to lock in all of your entries.
• Make use of the “View/Edit” option to check and confirm if the recorded scores are accurate.
Correct errors where necessary and update the file accordingly.
KNEC has highlighted institutions which have challenges with access credentials on portals to make use of the "Need Help or Forgotten Password" option available on the login page. Assistance can also be received from the Sub-County Director of Education for each institution.
# Recording Absentee Learners
KNEC has given guidelines on coding in cases where learners will not be present during an assessment:
• For Foundation, Grades 1 to 4, and Intermediate level students, in subjects where a learner is not present, it is necessary to pick code ‘A’.
• For learners in grades 5 to 8, the code ‘AB’ will be used if a learner is absent in a given subject.
Procedure for Adding Learners on the CBA KNEC Portal
Institutions are also mandated to make sure all eligible learners are appropriately registered on the CBA KNEC portal before submitting their assessment work. The steps to register a learner are given below:
* Use your official school KNEC code and password to access the CBA KNEC login platform.
* Navigate to ‘Learner Management’ or ‘Learner Registration’ in the dashboard.
* Choose the option labeled "Add Learner" or "Register New Learner."
* Enter all mandatory information of learners such as name, gender, date of birth, and admission number.
* Validate the entries for accuracy.
* To finalize your registration, click on either "Save" or "Submit".
* Update the learners list to ensure the learner is in the institution's official list.
The Kenya National Examinations Council has reiterated its message concerning the need to follow the stipulated guidelines in uploading information to enable institutions to undertake the 2026 assessment cycle successfully.
