The Kenyan National Examinations Council: Description of Accessing the Use of the Contracted Professionals System (CP2) Portal

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has highlighted the role, requirements for access, and guidelines for operation of the Contracted Professionals System (CP2) portal, which is an online platform used to govern professionals involved in administering national examinations in various regions in Kenya.

KNEC basically sets up and keeps the standards for examinations in Kenya. That is their main job.

They hire qualified personnel every year for helping out with exam administration. Like supervision or invigilation, and then assessment too. Logistics and security are part of it as well.

All these appointments are conducted solely through the CP2 platform after adhering to all requirements in terms of eligibility and approval by KNEC.

KNEC CP2 Portal

The Contracted Professionals System (CP2) portal is an online platform initiated by the Kenya National Examinations Council to record, verify, and maintain relevant information concerning all people contracted for involvement in carrying out national examinations.

The portal integrates all information pertaining to the recruitment, deployment, and engagement of officers in conducting national examinations in various cadres.

As stated by KNEC, this online platform is used to control contracted professionals participating in setting, supervising, invigiling, administering, and totally managing national exams.

The online platform brings together information from different agencies and service providers to aid in verification, coordination, and accountability in administering exams.

Once registered and accepted, contracted professionals can apply for available examination work when advertised and view official letters of deployment issued by the Council via the portal.

Types of Contracted Professionals

The CP2 portal is intended for contracted and verified professionals contracted by KNEC, including but not limited to:

i.) Teachers working as supervisors, invigilators, or assessors

ii.) Examiners taking part in setting and marking examinations

iii.) Drivers involved in exam logistics and distribution

iv.) Security staff deployed in examination centers and storage sites

v.) The portal records and holds updated information for all people contracted in such roles.

Eligibility and Approval Requirements

Use of the CP2 portal is subject to approval by the Kenyan National Examinations Council. Eligibility for access is based on professional affiliations. The requirements are thus institutionally verified.

KNEC has indicated that:

Teachers wishing to participate in service recruitment as contracted teachers have to be registered in full with Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and practising.

The driver must have a valid operating license from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) in order to be accredited.

The security officers are contracted from the National Police Service in accordance with interagency agreements.

Only applicants satisfying a given set of criteria and approved by the Council can access a service on the CP2 portal.

Online Registration Procedure

The Kenya National Examinations Council has laid down steps for first-time registration on CP2. Registration takes place for all people wishing to work as contracted professionals in matters concerning national examinations.

The steps involved in registering include:

i. Access KNEC CP2 Website to Create an Account

ii. In the login page, click on «Create Account» which is labeled below where you insert your login information.

iii. Enter a correct mobile number in the registration page and verify it to submit a request by clicking ‘Create Account.’

iv. An automatic Short Message Service notification is sent to the given mobile phone number with login information, including the assigned username and password, along with a URL to access the system.

v. On receipt of the credentials, you need to verify delivery using the same cell phone number used in creating an account.

vi. Download the User Manual available on the portal before moving on, which comprehensively portrays how to go through and make use of all available services in the system.

KNEC has stated that all future application processes for contracts related to examinations, changes in personal information, access to letter deployment, among other administrative matters, will be undertaken solely on the CP2 portal.

Portal Access for Existing Users

As stated in the guidelines provided by the Kenya National Examinations Council, for those already using the CP2 portal, they have to login using their usernames and passwords.

They access the page by visiting the official homepage of KNEC CP2 and entering the login information provided.

Password Reset Procedures

KNEC has given two official ways in which one can recover passwords in case they are unable to access their accounts.

One way involves sending a short message service with the word *Password* to short code 22262.

The Council explained that an automatic response is sent to a registered phone number with directions on how to access an account.

Otherwise, users can attempt a password reset via the CP2 portal by clicking on *Forgot password* available in the login area.

The procedure will demand a username registered by the user in order to finish the whole process of password reset.

Editing User Information on CP2 Portal

The Council has further clarified the steps being followed to update personal and professional information on the CP2 portal.

One needs to log in through their accounts to access the *Profile* page where all information provided in the system is shown.

Relevant information is categorized under different links such as Personal Information, Qualifications, and Work Experience.

To update existing information, the individual is supposed to click on the relevant link and activate the *Edit* option.

To create new information, an individual will have to click on the *Add* option in order to access another interface to fill in new information.

"A KNEC examiner and supervisor observed that ‘previously contracted personnel are supposed to have their information updated from time to time.’ The examiner explained that ‘any change in biodata, including transfer,' must be updated in the system to aid in ‘processing allowances such as travel allowances and other allowances based on stations.’"
