One Student Dies, 4 Injured In Separate Accidents.

Following two separate road accidents in Matungulu, Machakos County, one student died and four others were seriously injured on Thursday.

Matungulu sub-county police commander Monica Kimani said the first accident happened in the Nguluni area along Nairobi-Kangundo Road, and the second in the Masokani area along Koma-Kenol Road.

Both incidents were reported to the KBC police department.

“In the first incident, it occurred today at around 1050 hours at Nguluni area along Nairobi- Kangundo road. It happened that one Daniel Ragira (42) was driving a motor vehicle registration number KBU 765 U, make Toyota Fielder from Nairobi general direction and on reaching the location of the accident, he tried to overtake,” Kimani said.

According to her, Emmanuel Wambua, 15, died on the spot as a result of the impact, while Enock Wambua, 13, fractured his left leg.

Both the deceased and the injured were Countryside Educational Centre students who were on their way home for a midterm break when the incident occurred.

Ragira told reporters at the scene that he swerved off the road to avoid an overtaking car, which caused the accident.

Daniel Muli, the principal of Muindi Mbingu Secondary School, confirmed that students from the school were involved in the accident.

“I was driving ahead of them when I heard a loud thud. On stopping, I noted the vehicle behind carrying students had crashed,” Muli said.

He stated that the students were returning home after the school closed for the midterm break.

Kimani stated that the body was transported to Kangundo Level 4 Hospital mortuary and was preserved pending a post-mortem and disposal.

The victims were also rushed to the same hospital where they had been admitted and were being treated.

According to the police chief, both wreckages were towed to the KBC police station for inspection.

The accidents have prompted police to launch investigations.
