Job Description

The International School of Kenya is seeking a Middle School Science Teacher to cover Semester 2 of the 2026–2027 school year, from 11 January 2027 to 10 June 2027. The teacher will implement ISK's Middle School Science curriculum, aligned with OpenSciEd and a guided inquiry framework. They will also work with colleagues to design learning that is responsive to individual students and consistent with the school's definition of learning. The role includes serving as an Advisory teacher and supporting the Middle School Social Emotional Learning (SEL) program. This is a local advertisement, so only individuals already in Nairobi will be considered.

Responsibilities

Ensure student learning success and provide for each student's individual learning needs Implement a program of study that follows the school curriculum adopted by the Board of Directors Implement the Middle School Science curriculum aligned with OpenSciEd and a guided inquiry framework Collaborate with the team to design learning that is robust, responsive and aligned with ISK's definition of learning Promote a positive learning environment centred on safety, trust, mattering and belonging Engage in ongoing professional learning Differentiate and personalise learning for diverse learners Implement ISK's Strategic Focus Areas (Learning Design, Inclusion, Wellbeing) Be an engaged member of the community, including mentoring or coaching extracurricular learning outside the school day Fulfil assigned supervision duties, including some evening and weekend events and off-campus trips Communicate regularly with families (for example, conferences and reports) Protect the safety and wellbeing of children Serve as an Advisory teacher and support the Middle School SEL program Perform other duties reasonably assigned by the administration

Requirements

Experience with the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and OpenSciEd Cultural proficiency and understanding of intercultural learning, with teaching experience in a multicultural setting Strong communication, collaboration and interpersonal skills A solid understanding of pedagogy and instructional approaches aligned with ISK's educational aims, including: Conceptual and inquiry-based learning Understanding by Design (UbD) Social Emotional Learning A student-centred approach Technology integration Being already based in Nairobi

Qualifications

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Science, Science Education, or a relevant field Valid teaching certification in Science from an accredited university or college

Experience

A minimum of three to five years of relevant teaching experience, preferably at Middle School level.
