International Fugitive Arrested At UON

On Monday night, June 6, officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) caught international fugitive hiding at the University of Nairobi (UoN).

According to a DCI statement, detectives from the Transnational and Organized Crime Unit flushed Mohamed Magzoub from his hideout at the UoN staff quarters.

Magzoub, a Sudanese national, was wanted on charges of organized crime in his home country.

“Detectives have arrested an international fugitive, facing organized crimes charges in Sudan. Mohamed Nagi Mohamed Magzoub, holder of Sudanese passport number P49 was flushed out of his hideout in the city,” read the DCI statement in part.

The suspect, who is currently in custody, will be deported to Sudan to face charges, according to the DCI.

Arrangements are being made to extradite the suspect to his home country, where he will face justice.

According to the investigating agency, the arrest was made as a result of collaboration between police from various countries and collaboration with the International Police Organization (INTERPOL).

It did, however, express concern about the recent increase in the number of international fugitives apprehended in the country.

The arrest on June 6 comes just a week after Badru Abdul Aziz Saleh, a fugitive on whom the United States of America had placed a Ksh116 bounty, was apprehended while attempting to flee the country.

Badru was apprehended by a multi-agency unit in Liboi, Garissa county while attempting to cross into Somalia. He and two other Kenyans were wanted on suspicion of fraud, drug, and ivory trafficking.
