As the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) gets ready to hire new teachers, Kirinyaga County director Dr. Samwel Marigat has issued a warning about swindlers who might try to trick them with deceptive promises.

Speaking to prospective candidates at the Kirinyaga Central NG-CDF offices in Kerugoya, Marigat insisted that there would be no recruitment agents working on behalf of TSC and that the commission would employ a free and fair hiring process.

“Employment of the teachers is based on the qualifications and does not attract any amount of money from the potential employee at any point. If anyone asks for money please report to us or our security officers,” Marigat said.

In order to avoid being duped, he advised the unemployed teachers to adhere to established procedures when applying for jobs with the TSC, the public sector, and other industries.

Additionally, Marigat urged job seekers to be honest in their applications for open positions.

He informed the more than 300 prospective applicants that canvassing would result in an automatic cancellation and that the TSC would not be held liable.

He also urged everyone who might be interested to apply because databases would be used for hiring in the future.

I encourage everyone to apply because if you don’t get the job today, we’ll only call you in the future for data verification.

Joseph Gachoki Gitari, a member of national assembly, organized the meeting in an effort to give the applicants the opportunity to ask the TSC questions.

The MP stated that the government is working to meet the goal of hiring 116,000 teachers and that the 30,000 positions that have already been advertised will significantly aid in preparing junior secondary schools for the new curriculum.

He claimed to have planned the gathering based on data provided by the Teachers Service Commission and the Ministry of Education.

According to Gitari, the teacher database will aid in developing a supplemental budget for the TSC in parliament.

“We want the applicants to get all relevant information from TSC as they apply for the positions. They must know what is required on the verification dates,” explained Gitari.

“I will also get the database of registered teachers that will help us in lobbying for TSC funds during the preparation of a supplementary budget to help them recruit more teachers,” the MP said.

Shadrack Radeng, the county’s director of education, and Daniel Ndege, the deputy county commissioner for Kirinyaga Central, were present at the meeting.

Promotional Vacancies

In a nationwide search to fill 14,000 leadership positions, including Chief Principals, Principals, Deputy Principals, Senior Teachers, and Head Teachers, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) made the announcement.

TSC announced that it was looking to promote 13,713 teachers to leadership positions in various secondary and primary schools across the nation in an advertisement dated Thursday, December 22.

The Commission also made it clear that it was aiming its attention at both regular school teachers and Special Needs Education (SNE) professionals.

Additionally, TSC stated that it was looking to hire 1,021 school heads to work in a variety of institutions in arid and semi-arid counties like Kajiado, Isiolo, Garissa, Samburu, Taita Taveta, Tana River, Turkana, Wajir, and West Pokot. On the other hand, four open Chief principal positions at various colleges for teacher preparation were advertised.

How to apply

Interested tutors were encouraged to submit their applications for the various positions via the TSC job portal at www.teachersonline.go.ke.

TSC made it abundantly clear that it wouldn’t take into account manual applications.

During the application process, applicants must upload the letter of deployment for the current responsibility.

The advertisement stated, in part, that candidates who would be successful in the interviews “shall be required to present valid Chapter 6 documents before they are considered for appointment.”

The application deadline has been set for January 23, 2023. According to a portion of the advertisement, the Commission invites applications from teachers who are suitably qualified for the positions listed below, in accordance with the Teachers’ Career Progression Guidelines.

TSC also emphasized that it would take all applications into account and that people with disabilities were welcome to submit them.
