Form 4 Candidate Commits Suicide In Suspected Depression

On Thursday morning, a 20-year-old Form Four student committed suicide at her home in St Mary’s Estate on the outskirts of Kitale town, allegedly due to depression.

Esther Waceke, a student at Maziwa Secondary School, was discovered dangling on a sisal rope at a store in the homestead, along with a suicide note. She was dressed appropriately for school.

The suicide note, discovered by police officers on the scene, read: “Goodbye to my parents, I love you so much. I will end my life on Thursday. ”

According to the deceased’s siblings, she recently complained about being rejected at school by her classmates and some teachers who claimed she was stubborn and senile.

According to her sister, Wanjiku Wangechi, the deceased would occasionally get up early, and dress for school, but never leave the house.

Her sister recalled the last time she visited her claiming she was isolated at school by the principal, who accused her of being disruptive, causing her to miss classes.

Wangechi stated that her sister was preparing to take her final exams later this year.

“We are shocked following the untimely demise of my sister. We knew she had a little bit of issues with school, but we did not see it getting to this far,” she explained.

“I asked her why she was growing thin and she told me that she was too committed to her studies since she wanted to perform well in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations slated for December,” said Mrs. Rahab Kibe.

Mr. Kinyua Gitau, a local church elder, urged youths to seek help whenever they face difficulties in life.

He stated that the deceased attended his church and that she could have sought counseling instead of committing suicide.
