Crocodile Mauls Grade 2 Pupil In Lake Victoria.
A family is looking for the body of a Grade 2 pupil who was killed by a crocodile in Lake Victoria.
Arnold Onyango was killed on Sunday evening at Kobiero beach in the Karachuonyo constituency after being attacked by a reptile.
The crocodile pried the minor and dragged him into the water before eating him.
According to Erick Osawa, chairman of the area Beach Management Unit, the crocodile first dived with the boy before resurfacing some meters away with the body in its mouth.
The Lower Kamuga Primary School student was bathing with two other children.
“His colleagues, who were with him, said the crocodile carried the boy towards the deeper waters,” Osawa said.
On Monday, family, relatives, and friends gathered at Kobiero Beach.
Residents rushed to the scene after the children fled and raised an alarm.
Efforts to save the boy, however, were futile because the crocodile dived again and vanished.
People who rushed to the scene were unable to locate the crocodile or the boy’s body.
Osawa requested assistance from government agencies in retrieving the body.
According to Kokoth Kataa location chief Michael Owino, they are concentrating their efforts on the papyrus reeds where they believe the crocodile may have deposited its body.
“It is believed that crocodiles hide human body in the papyrus reeds. The search team is focusing on the reeds to speed up the retrieval,” Owino said.
