Education Cabinet Secretary prof George Magoha has revealed that the state will release free education funds to schools before the start of the third term.

During the commissioning of two Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) classrooms at Kereri Girls High School on the outskirts of Kisii town, Education Cabinet Secretary Prof. George Magoha stated that they expect the school calendar to return to normal at the beginning of the new year.

The CS highlighted that the reinstatement of the normal school calendar would be the sole present the outgoing government can give the new leadership, as well as the children whose calendars have been disturbed since the Covid-19 pandemic.

Magoha noted that the completion rate for CBC classrooms across the nation is 97 percent, with Nyanza Region registering 100 percent completion, following Central and North Eastern Regions.

However, the Cabinet Secretary decried delays in Kericho, Bungoma, Elgeyo Marakwet, and Kwale, saying that they are working on these counties to guarantee that the classrooms are finished before the current government leaves office.

Concerning the young age of children entering Junior secondary school, Magoha stated that more than 30,000 primary school students who took national examinations last year were younger than 12 years old.

Due to their young age, he suggested that parents who prefer to remain near their children consider enrolling them in day schools once they enter junior high school.

In addition, Magoha advised parents with children enrolled in private schools to consider keeping them there if their institutions offered Junior secondary school.

The secretary of state advised the people not to politicize the new primary education curriculum, stating that he had dealt impartially with education matters.
