Inter-schools golf tournaments have emerged as a prominent avenue for nurturing young talent in the sport from an early age.

During the second edition of a recent tournament, school directors expressed their enthusiasm for expanding these events to benefit more students.

With an increased number of participating schools and students, there is a growing demand for more inclusive and extensive competitions.

During the second edition of the inter-schools golf tournament, held at the prestigious Windsor Golf and Country Club, the event witnessed a significant surge in participation.

A total of 23 schools, ranging from high schools to kindergartens, competed, surpassing the initial 20 schools that participated in the first tournament held in March 2023.

This increase in participation demonstrates the growing interest and enthusiasm among both students and schools for golf as a competitive sport.

Regina Gachora, the president of the Junior Golf Foundation, acknowledged the need to accommodate the rising number of schools and students in future tournaments.

Gachora highlighted the possibility of partnering with clubs capable of hosting a full day of competitions to accommodate up to 180-200 players, as the demand continues to grow.

“We can do a maximum of 150 players; we had 140 players this time. For the next tournaments, we might have to look at getting into clubs that can give us a full day,” Regina Gachora, the junior golf Foundation president, said.

By expanding the scope of these tournaments, more young golfers will have the opportunity to showcase their skills, fostering healthy competition and growth within the sport.
