Students in Migori County will benefit from a Sh120 million bursary allocated in the budget for the fiscal year 2022-2023.

Speaking in the County Chambers, George Omamba, chair of the Budget and Appropriation Committee, stated that the Sh8.9 billion budget included a Sh120 million bursary allocation for needy and bright students to help them advance in their education.

Omamba stated that the bursary had not been budgeted for the previous three fiscal years, denying needy students the opportunity to benefit from the kitty.

“We will compare and check the figures in the Appropriation Bill, especially for the bursary allocations and the figures that they have passed in the main budget to ascertain that all the necessary documentation is included as required by the law before its passage, said Omamba.

Omamba also stated that stalled projects that had been fully budgeted for under county revenue will be projected in subsequent supplementary budget allocations, noting that Covid 19 hampered revenue collection while other sectors’ budgets were redirected to health to combat disease spread.

Graham Kagali, Chair of the Finance Committee, praised the Budget and Appropriation Committee for allocating funds for bursaries.

He stated that bursary allocation should be consistent in order to secure the future of Migori children.

He observed that the country cannot progress in terms of human resource and wealth generation without education.

Kagali also praised the Budget and Appropriations Committee for allocating Sh710 million to Ward Community Projects led by MCAs.

“We will make sure that the County Assembly goes ahead to adapt and pass the budget before the house is dissolved,” stated Duro.
