Parents Dissatisfied With Student Placements.
While some candidates rejoiced at being assigned to schools of their choice, it was a sad day for a pair of twins who had requested that the government assign them to the same school.
If they take the slots, Jesica Adongo and her identical twin sister Josephine Apiyo, who took their KCPE at Lwak Girls Primary School, will be separated.
Adongo, who received 413 points, will attend Alliance Girls High School, which is 74.8 kilometres away from her sister Apiyo’s (408) Mary Hills High School in Thika.
Their parents were concerned yesterday, claiming that the girls’ separation would have a psychological impact on their academic performance and future careers.
“They have never been separated in their lifetime, we are afraid they will suffer away from each other,” said George Oloo, their father.
Mureithi Matu, a parent in Murang’a County, said his daughter received 408 points and was assigned to Nyandarua High School, which was not her first choice. She stated that the girl is disheartened.
“She chose Ngandu, Karima and Pangani and had performed well in KCPE,” said Dr Matu.
Triza Anyango, who finished first at St Theresa Rapogi Girls Boarding Primary School with 419 points, had chosen Kenya High School but was informed that she would be attending Mary Hill Girls High School instead.
Philip Karani of Likoni School for the Blind was chosen to attend Moi High School Mbiruri in Embu County after scoring 397 points. Nakuru High was Karani’s preferred school.

The CS urged parents to allow their children to attend the schools where they have been assigned, noting that the selection process was based on the principles of merit, choice, and equity.
“People should not bother me with phone calls because their child did not join the school of their choice. We have done justice to the children and every school is as good. It is not wise that everyone wants to join the top few national schools,” said the CS.
