The National Government Constituency Development Funds (NG-CDF) has disbursed Sh500,000 to support 46 orphans from Sotik Sub-County in Bomet County.

The announcement was made by Sotik Constituency Member of Parliament, Ambassador Francis Sigei, who explained that the funds were aimed at supporting vulnerable children who would not have gone to school if the government had opted to stop the disbursement of CDF.

As the area MP, Sigei instructed CDF officers to release funds to the needy students who are orphans in his constituency. He also noted that the purpose of the Fund is to enhance infrastructural and socio-economic development at the grassroots level to reduce poverty in the constituency.

Sigei promised to sponsor the beneficiaries as day scholars through the CDF funds until they complete their form four secondary school. He urged parents to embrace day schools to reduce expenses for boarding schools.

On the other hand, Bomet East Constituency MP Richard Yegon launched the issuance of cheques worth Sh26.7 million to support 3,440 students who have benefitted from the CDF fund.

The students who applied for the funds were awarded Sh9,500 each, and Yegon’s team was targeting to cater for fees for 15 students per day school in his area.

The NG-CDF was created to support development projects at the constituency level. It aims to reduce poverty by providing financial resources for projects that uplift the socio-economic status of communities.

The CDF also supports education by providing bursaries and scholarships to needy students, as seen in Sotik and Bomet East constituencies.

The funds are channeled to community development projects, including education, health, water, roads, and other infrastructure.

The NG-CDF has been an important tool for the development of rural areas, where government resources are limited. Through the Fund, MPs can prioritize development projects that address the needs of their constituencies.

The Fund has also been used to support small and medium enterprises, which are vital in creating employment opportunities and reducing poverty. However, there have been concerns about transparency and accountability in the management of the Fund.

Some MPs have been accused of misusing CDF funds for personal gain, leading to calls for reforms in the management of the Fund.

NG-CDF has provided much-needed financial resources to support development projects at the constituency level. The funds have been used to support education, health, water, roads, and other infrastructure.

The disbursement of Sh500,000 to support 46 orphans in Sotik and the issuance of cheques worth Sh26.7 million to support 3,440 students in Bomet East are examples of how the Fund has been used to support education.

MPs have an important role to play in ensuring that the Fund is used to address the needs of their constituencies, and reforms are needed to enhance transparency and accountability in the management of the Fund.
