Members of Parliament will now investigate allegations of cheating during the administration, marking, and results of the KCSE 2022.

Julius Melly, chairman of the Education Committee of the National Assembly, stated that schools will be compelled to provide candidates’ past test results.

This includes internal evaluation, simulated results, and even competitive external exams.

“We will also find out from the schools how their results have been in the previous internal exams like mocks so that we get to know who is cheating who,” Melly told the Star.

The Tinderet representative stated that the legislature will have a special session to consider the raised concerns.

Melly encouraged the people to maintain composure while the committee investigates the claims of wrongdoing.

Melly stated that the education committee will have a meeting and conduct a review of the recently released results.

Concern has been raised regarding the 2022 KCSE results, as stakeholders have questioned the ‘ambiguous’ positive variances received by several schools.

Mobamba High School in Nyamira raised additional eyebrows when its average exam score increased from 5.1% in 2021 to 9.2% in 2022, a divergence of +4.1 points.

“We will investigate if there was cheating, if there were any issues with the 2022 KCSE results then we will look into them,” Melly said.

This called the intervention of teacher unions, professors, legislators, and other stakeholders.

Melly stated that the committee would thoroughly investigate the entire examination procedure.

“So we will begin with the setting of the exam, where the papers were being kept, the security, invigilation, marking and the release,” he said.

Nyambaria High School had four A+ grades and 79 A- students on the 2021 exam (minus).

In 2022, these numbers more than doubled, with A- (minus) grades growing to 383 and A grades increasing to 28.

In addition, the mean score increased from 9.3 in 2021 to 10.9 in 2022.

The mean core of the Nyabite D.O.K in neighboring Kisii County posted by 3.5 from 5.1 in 2021 to 8.6 in 2022.
