KNEC Clarify On KCSE Candidate’s One A and Seven Es Grade

The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) has recently released a statement denying the authenticity of viral results that have been circulating on social media.

According to these fake results, a student by the name of Brian Kigen scored an A in English and six Es in the 2022 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exam.

In a clarification dated January 25th, KNEC flagged the circulated screenshot as fake and stated that “no such index number exists in any of our schools.”

The student in question was registered under index number 477*****301 and is supposed to have attained a mean grade of E and an aggregate of 18 points.

However, KNEC has stated that these results are completely fabricated and has urged the public to ignore them.

The clarification has raised concern from the public, who have already expressed doubts about the credibility of the results released on January 20th.

Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogo announced that 30,882 candidates, 12,760 female and 18,062 male, scored E in the 2022 KCSE.

However, the concerns from the public have mainly been about the students who scored As.

According to Machogu, “there were 1,146 (0.13%) candidates who obtained an overall Grade A in the 2022 KCSE Examination compared with 1,138 (0.14%) candidates in 2021.”

Results of little-known schools which floored giants were also subjected to questioning, even by Members of Parliament.

Due to these concerns, lawmakers have threatened to launch an investigation into the results.

KNEC has yet to respond to some of the allegations. But, KNEC had to step in to clear the air and assure the public that the results are not true.

The council is yet to respond to some of the allegations.

The release of these results has sparked a lot of debate and discussion among the public and lawmakers, and it is important that KNEC takes steps to clear up any doubts about the credibility of the exam results.
