Prof. George Magoha, Cabinet Secretary for Education, stated that the government has improved educational infrastructure in most secondary schools to accommodate the increased enrollment.

Magoha stated that more laboratories, classrooms, and toilet facilities had been built for students as part of the Kenya Secondary Education Quality Improvement Project (SEQIP).

“The Government has upgraded most of the schools’ infrastructure. This will enable more pupils to transit to secondary level with ease,” he said.

The CS, who was speaking at Butere Girls High School while touring the SEQIP plan in the institution, urged the contractor to complete the project so that students could benefit.

“We want you to offer quality work as yesterday. We want you to finish the project within three months so that I can commission it by the end of July this year,” said Magoha.

The CS stated that improving the infrastructure would also benefit students preparing for the Competency-Based Curriculum who would join the institution.

Magoha urged National Government Administration officers and educational officials in the area to identify students who remained at home and enroll them in secondary schools.

“Don’t hold them at gunpoint but ensure they are brought to school peacefully. We will ensure they are in school by offering government scholarships and bursaries after double-checking their status,” said Magoha.

He stated that there was no need to extend the SEQIP contracts and requested that the contractors add more human resources to the site in order to complete the work.
