All CBC Classrooms To Be completed By End Of June – Magoha.
The Cabinet Secretary has stated that the Ministry of Education has completed approximately 6,000 classrooms out of the over 10,000 expected to house junior secondary school students under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).
He stated that the remaining 4,490 classrooms will be finished by the end of next month as planned.
The first phase of the project includes over 10,000 classrooms. According to Prof. Magoha, the government has set aside funds for phase two of the classroom project.
“We hope that by the time we leave the government in August, we will have completed 10,000 classrooms at a cost of Ksh 788,000 each. We are now approaching 94 percent in terms of works and we shall continue with the construction.
“I am urging field officers to encourage those who have not completed the classrooms to do so within the stipulated timeline.”
The CS spoke at Kaptembwa slums in Nakuru-Town West Sub-County, where he took the initiative to round up and escort six learners from the informal settlement who had yet to report to school.
Simultaneously, the CS, who later commissioned Junior Secondary classrooms at Nakuru-West and Nakuru Boys secondary schools, persuaded opponents of the competency-based curriculum (CBC) to keep politics out of education reforms.
A number of teachers and unionists have accused the government of being unprepared for the implementation next year.

“In my view, the government has not allocated enough of the budget towards the programme. Construction of classrooms in a few schools will bring confusion in the rollout of the programme next year,” he said.
