Class 8 Pupil Commits Suicide Over Fee Balance

A tragic incident occurred on Tuesday in Kigumo village, Embu County, where a class eight pupil took his own life.

The boy, who was just 14 years old, reportedly committed suicide after being sent home from school to collect his outstanding school fee balance. He was a student at Kiriari primary school.

According to reports, the boy arrived home from school and found his mother tending to his siblings. He had a brief conversation with her and then went into the house.

Later, his mother discovered him hanging from the roof as she was preparing to take him back to school.

The area assistant chief, Nelson Muturi, confirmed the incident and expressed his condolences to the family.

He also urged residents to be vigilant and look out for each other, especially during these challenging times.

Reverend Robert Nyaga, a village elder, described the boy as an obedient child and expressed confusion over his decision to take his own life.

He urged members of the community to seek help and advice whenever they are troubled.

The boy’s body was taken to the mortuary, and investigations are currently underway to determine the circumstances surrounding his death.

This tragic incident highlights the importance of addressing mental health issues among children and adolescents.

It is crucial to create an environment where children can express themselves freely without fear of judgment or discrimination.

Parents, guardians, and educators must be proactive in identifying signs of distress in children and provide them with the necessary support and resources.

It is also essential to destigmatize seeking help for mental health issues. There should be open and honest conversations about mental health in schools, communities, and households. Counseling services should be readily available and accessible to children and their families.

The loss of a young life is always devastating, and our hearts go out to the family and friends of the boy who took his own life. Let us all work together to create a society where children can thrive and fulfill their potential.
