‘Build A World Of Play’ Initiative Launched.
In collaboration with Kenya Library Services, World Vision Kenya has launched an initiative to support early childhood development programs in Narok County.
The initiative, which began at Olonganaiyo Primary School, is sponsored by the Lego Foundation and the Aga Khan Foundation, and it is expected to benefit approximately 2,000 children from 20 primary schools in Narok South Sub County.
The project was launched at a time when the Lego Foundation is celebrating its 90th anniversary with the theme, ‘Build a world of play,’ and it aims to raise awareness about the value of play among children and their parents or caregivers.
Ms. Mirasine Meiguran, World Vision cluster manager in charge of Narok and Bomet Counties, stated that the project will be implemented in 18 months and is expected to improve the learning outcomes of the children in the targeted primary schools.
She emphasized that the initiative will also help lower primary grade teachers integrate play-based teaching and learning approaches into their classrooms.
“We aim to promote child wellbeing through sustained transformational development and facilitating the empowerment of children, especially the vulnerable children,” she added.
Narok County Commissioner Isaac Masinde and education officials led by Narok County Executive member in charge of Education and youth affairs Ms. Cicilia Wuapari attended the event.
He urged schools and parents to allow children to play while they learn in order to improve their education and psychological development.
The commissioner revealed that the government was surveying all schools in drought-stricken areas in order to provide a free feeding program to keep children in school.

Wuapari thanked the program’s implementers for promoting education in the county and encouraged children to use the mobile library and play games to benefit themselves.
The program is also being implemented in Kakamega and Nairobi counties, with a total of 6, 000 learners and 5, 000 caregivers targeted across all counties.
