5 Makueni Students Charged With Attempted Arson Five students from AIC Mavindini Boys High School in Kathonzweni Sub County were charged in Makueni court with attempting to burn down a school dormitory.The five accused appeared before Magistrate Elizabeth Kemei and pleaded not guilty to the charges.The five were charged with possessing a “Kifaru Kubwa” matchbox and a plastic bottle concealed under a pink bed sheet that smelt of petroleum fuel on May 8 at around 7:30 p.m., while others were not in court.The bedsheet is suspected of being used to sprinkle petrol on the student dormitory floor with the intent of torching the structure, according to the court.On May 10, the accused were apprehended and detained at the Mavindini police station.The accused were each released on a cash bond of Ksh 20,000 or a Ksh 50,000 bond with the same amount of surety.However, they were unable to raise the required funds and will be detained at the Machakos Youth Correction and Training Centre juvenile correction facility.
