Fifteen students from Kenya have embarked on a journey to China to participate in the global Information and Communication Technology (ICT) competition.

The students, who were congratulated and seen off by Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, have already made their country proud through their performance in the national and regional finals of the ICT competition.

Mudavadi commended their achievements, emphasizing that Kenya’s investment in education, skills, and digital technologies has yielded positive results.

He highlighted that the government’s goal of achieving a digital superhighway extends beyond infrastructure development and accessibility.

According to Mudavadi, the government’s vision for the digital superhighway aligns with the Bottom-up Economic Transformation Agenda.

This agenda aims to create opportunities and an enabling environment for the people of Kenya to thrive.

Mudavadi stressed that the country’s progress in the ICT sector is crucial for economic growth and development.

Steven Zhang, one of the organizers of the global event, expressed the firm’s commitment to investing in ICT skills development for Kenyans.

Zhang stated that the firm believes in the importance of building world-class digital infrastructure and expanding Kenya’s digital superhighway.

To achieve this, the company plans to strengthen its partnerships and engagement with the government, academia, and the private sector to foster the growth of the ICT talent ecosystem.

Cultivating high-quality ICT talent will play a vital role in facilitating the development of the digital economy.

The ICT Competition

The ICT Competition is a talent exchange event organized by the firm to promote the healthy development of the global ICT talent ecosystem and facilitate the integration of industry and education.

With participation from over 150,000 students across 85 countries, the competition has gained international recognition.

In Kenya, the challenge has attracted more than 13,000 students since 2018, and this year alone, over 4,000 students from various universities and colleges registered for the competition.

Out of 4,500 Kenyan participants in the national final, the 15 selected students emerged victorious, securing their place in the global competition.

Additionally, they represented Kenya in the African competition, where they ranked among the top three out of 16 countries.

The upcoming global ICT competition will be the seventh edition, following the successful performances of previous Kenyan participants.
