The regional ball games of the Kenya Association of Technical Training Institutions (KATTI) concluded on Saturday, with Wote Technical Training Institute (WTTI) being crowned tournament champions.
WTTI, the host, won with 39 points, while Katine TTI and Nuu Technical and Vocational College (TVC) came in second and third place, respectively.
Wote Technical defeated David Wambuli (TVC) 3-1 in a thrilling match on Saturday at the Unoa Sports ground in Wote town.
WTTI received a lot of support from their fellow students who had flocked to the Unoa grounds, as all of the scores were scored in the second half.
During the games, the WTTI women’s soccer team defeated Nuu TTI 3-0 to win the women’s soccer championship.
At the same time, Wote TTI reaffirmed its tournament dominance by defeating Nuu TTI 63-3 in netball for women.
Tseikuru TTI won the men’s trophy in a thrilling final match against Wote TTI men, but Wote TTI women made amends by winning the women’s trophy after defeating Masinga TTI in both sets.
The top two teams in each game will advance to the KATTI national sports tournament, which will be held in September of this year. During the games, the top three teams in each sport received a trophy.
The tournament began on Friday and included eight teams: Wote TTI, Kibwezi West TVC and David Wambuli TVC (Makueni), Katine TTI, Mwala TVC and Masinga TVC (Machakos), and Tseikuru TTI and Nuu TVC (Kitui).
Mr. John Wamae, the Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) Lower Eastern Regional Director, stated at the same event that the tournament’s goal is to instill a sports culture in institutions and promote national unity among students.

“We want to use sports as an avenue to bring students together besides releasing pressure from classwork and life challenges,” said Wamae, while addressing the various teams at Unoa sports ground.
As a result, Wamae urged youths to enroll in TVET institutions, where they will learn advanced skills that will help them become self-sufficient.
