We Won’t Abolish CBC – Education CS Magoha

We Won’t Abolish CBC – Education CS Magoha.

Despite the criticism levelled at the new educational system, Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha has stated that the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) is here to stay.

He stated that the government has trained enough teachers to ensure that the curriculum is implemented smoothly.

Magoha told opponents of the new system that the government will abandon it, claiming that CBC will provide solutions to some of Kenya’s social ills, such as corruption.

“CBC is here to stay and those opposed to it are wasting their time. We will not abolish it. The government is keen on implementing CBC successfully and so, there is no cause for fear that it will fail,” he said.

Magoha spoke at St Patrick Makunga Secondary School in Trans-Nzoia County on Saturday, where he commissioned a CBC classroom.

He warned Kenyans not to politicize CBC.

Those opposed to CBC, according to the minister, are unaware of the benefits of the new system.

“Anybody saying CBC should be scrapped is not honest. Would you like a child who has taken eight years learning under CBC to go to a different system? That will not be practical,” he said describing CBC as a “gift” to the Kenyan children.

He continued, saying: “Kenyans must understand that all teachers are qualified. All we’re doing now is realigning the way they teach by understanding the CBC’s needs,” the CS stated.

Meanwhile, Magoha stated that the government has already built the majority of the required junior secondary classrooms, with Mandera County having the most.

“We are satisfied with the progress Mandera County has registered with 93 per cent of the new classrooms being completed,” said the CS.
