Vice Chancellors Among 15 Shortlisted For CUE Job

Daystar University, SEKU Vice Chancellors Among 15 candidates shortlisted for the CUE CEO job.

Two vice chancellors are among key figures shortlisted for the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Commission for University Education.

Prof Laban Peter Ayiro of Daystar University and Prof Geoffrey Muluvi of South Eastern Kenya University are among the 15 candidates shortlisted for the CUE job.

Prof Nathan Oyori Ogechi is the DVC for Student Affairs at Moi University and the DVC for Administration at Kenyatta University.

Prof John Okumu and Prof Christopher Shisanya, both Full Professors of Agroclimatology in Kenyatta University’s Department of Geography, have also been shortlisted.

Prof Emily Achieng’ Akuno, Dr Dismus Bulinda, Prof Elizabeth Wangari Gathuhi, Dr Everlyne Kisembe, Prof Mike Kuria, Prof Dr Benedict Mwavu Mutua, Prof Francis Gichuki Ndiritu, Prof Grace Njoroge, Prof Maurice Oduor Okoth, Gilbert Opanga, Prof Douglas Shitanda, and Prof Jackson Too are among those who have been appointed.

The information is contained in a communication from commission chairman Prof Chacha Nyaigotti- Chacha.

Those chosen will be interviewed over three days from June 28 to June 30.

The successful candidate will be appointed for a five-year term. The candidate will take over for Prof Mwenda Ntarangwi, whose term ended on September 6, 2017.

Prof. Ntarangwi took over for Prof David Kimutai Some, who had held the position since 2012.

However, the first term is renewable for a further five years based on satisfactory performance and mutual agreement.

Prof Akuno, DVC (Academic Affairs) at the Co-operative University of Kenya, will be the first candidate to appear before the panel on June 28, followed by Prof Ayiro.

On the first day, Dr Gathuthi, Registrar – Academics at Karatina University, and Dr Kisembe will be interviewed.

Prof Njoroge, Prof Kuria, Prof Ndiritu, Prof Dr Mutua, and Prof Muluvi will face the interview panel on the second day.

While Professor Shitanda, Professor Too, Professor Ogechi, Professor Okoth, and Opanga, Senior Assistant Commission Secretary (Quality Audit and Standards) at CUE, will complete the interviews on June 30.

The position drew 49 applications.
