US Embassy Warns Kenyans On US Diversity Visa Fraudsters
Kenyans have been warned to be wary of unscrupulous individuals claiming to assist them in obtaining the US Diversity Visa Program, also known as the Green Card lottery.
The US Embassy in Nairobi announced on Wednesday that applications for the 2024 program are still being accepted, but urged interested Kenyans to avoid anyone charging them to be entered into the lottery.
“Registration for 2024 Diversity Visa Program is now open. Beware of fraudsters – there is NO fee to enter,” the Ambassador Meg Whitman-led office said in a statement on Twitter.
The Diversity Visa Program entry submission period began on October 5 and will end on November 8.
Only online applications will be accepted, according to the US Department of State, which administers the DV program.
“The entry form will only be available for submission during this period and this period only. Entries will NOT be accepted through the U.S. Postal Service,” the department says on its website.
The US Green Card is arguably the most desired immigrant visa in the world, but it is extremely difficult to obtain.
The Green Card Lottery makes up to 50,000 immigrant visas available each year, drawn at random from all entries to people from countries with low rates of immigration to the United States.
