Police are looking into the death of a fourth-year JKUAT student who was depressed because he couldn’t graduate due to missing marks.

Police are looking into whether the death on Friday was a suicide or a murder.

His body was discovered by his girlfriend, who had gone to see him in his room at the Maya Apartments on Kenya Road in Juja, Kiambu county.

The girlfriend told police that her boyfriend was supposed to graduate on Tuesday, but he was upset because he did not receive all of his grades.

He allegedly locked himself in the room, according to her. She believes he hanged himself at 2 a.m.

The body was taken to the mortuary for an autopsy by police.

A number of his friends have been questioned by police. Suicides have increased in recent months.

In 2019, police handled 499 cases, and in 2020, they will handle 575. Between January and July 2021, at least 313 people are reported to have committed suicide.

Meanwhile, police are looking for a gang that robbed the owner of a mobile phone shop on Jogoo Road in Nairobi on Saturday night for Sh180,000. They later destroyed CCTV footage from their activities.

According to the shop owner, three men riding a motorcycle and armed with a pistol came to his shop in the Hamza area. They demanded money and the location of the server.

They dismantled it and fled with the money.

A team of detectives is looking into the matter. They have used the recording’s details to try to reconstruct the events and identify the attackers.
