Principal of Tom Mboya University College Summoned For Assaulting UASU Official.
Prof Charles Ochola, principal of Tom Mboya University College, has been summoned for questioning for allegedly assaulting a university academics staff union (UASU) official.
Maseno University in Kisumu is a constituent of the college.
Ochola is accused of assaulting Maseno University UASU branch secretary Dr Stephen Onyango while having dinner with other union officials on May 6 at Mamba hotel.
According to Kisumu Central sub-county police commander Anthony Maina, Ochola was summoned for questioning in connection with an alleged ongoing investigation into an assault case.
He stated that the investigation was nearing completion. According to Maina, the assault victim reported the incident on May 7.
“We wanted to conduct thorough investigations over the said assault case. So as a person of interest, we summoned the professor,” Maina said.
Prior to being assaulted, Onyango was subjected to a disciplinary committee chaired by university Vice-Chancellor Julius Nyabundi, but the disciplinary procedure was invalidated by UASU national officials.
Onyango, a lecturer at Maseno, claimed he was assaulted for raising concerns about the academic performance of some University students.
He claimed in a Maseno dons’ lecturer WhatsApp group that some students who failed their exams ended up graduating.
