KUCCPS Results Reveals The Most and Least Attractive Universities In Kenya

According to the Kenya Universities and Colleges, Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) data revealed yesterday during the results of the placement by Education Cabinet Secretary Prof Magoha, the competitiveness of universities, colleges was revealed.

The placement revealed the most sought universities in Kenya that have mounted the competitive courses and have secured positions in the annual ranking by international agencies.

Top 10 Attractive Universities In Kenya

  • Kenyatta University was the most attractive higher institution in Kenya as it attracted the highest number of applicants this year. With a total capacity of 6,894 being declared by the institution this year, Kenyatta University got 6,733 students.
  • Maseno University was second with a total of 6,659 students placed. The capacity declared was 7,740.
  • Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) became the third most attractive university in Kenya as it received 6,529 students slightly below its declared capacity of 7,151.
  • The University of Nairobi which has always ranked on the list of best universities in Kenya got 6,407 students against its total declared capacity of 6, 536.
  • Mount Kenya University got 5,584 students against a declared capacity of 6,420 to become the 5th most attractive university in Kenya and number one among private institutions.
  • Moi University was allocated, 5,187 students. It declared a capacity of 5,460.
  • Kisii University was allocated 4,600, while Chuka University got 4,133 
  • Others include Egerton University with 4,039. Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) with 3,893, and Kirinyaga University with 3,142 in the top ten list.

TOP 10 Least Attractive Universities In Kenya

This article won’t be interesting without listing the top 10 universities that attracted the least number of applicants.

  1. Amref International University – 71 students
  2. Uzima University – 195 students
  3. Marist International University – 218 students.
  4. The East African University – 286 students, 
  5. Tangaza University College – 319 students
  6. Koitaleel Samoei University College – 327 students. 
  7. Taita Taveta University – 524 as 
  8. Gretsa University – 593.

The attractiveness of these institutions can be attributed to last year’s Webometric Ranking. These universities were among the top-ranked nationally with the assessment done on three critical categories of impact, openness and excellence.

The international ranking has been proved to raising institutions standing on compliance with quality and standards. Versities are normally ranked on five all-inclusive parameters which include, research, teaching, citations, industry income and international outlook.

Some universities however got at least 90 per cent of the capacity they declared. Some of them declared a small capacity leading to high percentage allocations. Universities that got almost all their declared capacity full include:

  • Daystar University, 
  • Technical University of Kenya, 
  • Multimedia University of Kenya, 
  • University of Nairobi, Kenyatta University, 
  • Moi University, 
  • Dedan Kimathi University, 
  • Technical University of Mombasa, and 
  • African Nazarene University

The attractiveness of the above institutions is simply attributed to the programmes offered and which are naturally defined by the nature of the availability of enough space, resources, facilities and teaching staff.

Also important is the institution’s establishment, market forces and professional bodies.
