UK Invites Kenyans to Essay Competition; How to Apply

The Kenyan High Commission in the UK has invited Kenyans to participate in the Queen’s Commonwealth essay competition to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Commonwealth Youth Programme.

The competition seeks to explore the power young people hold within the global community and how that power can be harnessed to make a meaningful impact in the world. The competition is open from March 16 to June 30, 2023, and has junior and senior categories.

Participants in the senior category, aged between 14 and 18 years, are required to answer four questions, including writing a speech for the Head of the Commonwealth on the importance of young people in decision-making and scripting a dialogue between two people with contrasting viewpoints on an issue that divides generations.

The winner of the competition will receive a trip to London for a week of educational and cultural activities, while other winners will get Gold, Silver, and Bronze awards during a special awards ceremony.

In the junior category, applicants under 14 years are required to answer four questions, including choosing their favorite young hero and writing to them stating why they admire them and journaling their experience on a planet where everyone is 18 years or under.

Applicants are encouraged to submit their entries to www(dot)royalcwsociety(dot)org or to Email competition(@)royalsociety(dot)org.

The Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition is the world’s oldest international writing competition, marking 140 years since it was established in 1883.
