Two Students Commit Suicide In One Week In Mwingi.

Two suicide incidents were reported in one week In Mwingi involving a Form 4 student and a Standard 7 pupil.

The two incidents were confirmed by Mwingi Central sub-county police commander Peter Mutuma.

Mutuma stated that the high school student from Kyanika Secondary School hanged himself on a tree with a sisal rope on Saturday at his father’s farm in Kathonzweni.

The father, Samuel Kyalo, stated that his son had recently been transferred from Mbondoni Secondary School to Kyanika.

Kyalo, on the other hand, revealed that his son had refused to attend school for two weeks for no apparent reason.

According to him, they discovered a suicide note in his bedroom that reads, “Learning is nonsense, my parents, neighbors and the government should take my body to school if they still want me to study.”

Mutuma stated that the body had been moved to the Mwingi Level 4 hospital mortuary for a postmortem.

In Kyethani, a Standard 7 student at Kwa Musya Primary School hanged herself.

Her mother, Pauline Muusi, discovered her body.

Muusi claimed her 12-year-old daughter refused to attend school and committed suicide after she was forced to return.

Her body was transferred to the Mwingi Level 4 hospital morgue.

Mutuma believes that parents should talk to their children in order to better understand them and give them the confidence to express themselves freely.

‘The young people also need a lot of counselling and be allowed to freely air their opinions,” he said.
