The remaining two ran to report the incident around 2 PM, but by the time neighbors arrived to rescue the girls, they had already died.

“The two girls drowned at the deep Ndia Mathendu section of Kithino River,” said Mr Kimathi adding that the section of the river has huge rocks.

One of the pupils attended Kinamuthi Primary School in Class Seven, while the other attended Kithino Learning Centre in Grade Six.

Simon Ndonco, Director of Kithino Learning Centre, confirmed that one of his students had drowned in the river.
