TSC Fires 64 Teachers, School Heads Warned.
The Teachers Service Commission has fired 64 teachers for a variety of offences.
Of the total, 38 teachers were fired after a disciplinary process, while 26 were fired for falsifying certificates during the recruitment process.
TSC chief executive officer Nancy Macharia stated in a gazette notice dated April 14 that teachers whose names have been removed from the register will not be reinstated unless directed by the commission.
“In exercise of powers conferred by section 30 (1) (e) of the Teachers Service Commission Act Chapter 212 of the Laws of Kenya, the Commission wishes to notify the public the persons whose names are specified in the schedule herein below have been removed from the register of teachers pursuant to the provision of section 30 (2) of the TSC Act,” the notice said.
Persons whose names have been removed from the register, according to Macharia, cease to be teachers as of the date of the notice.
A person shall not engage in the teaching service unless registered as a teacher under this Act.
She cautioned schools against allowing people who have been removed from the register to teach or assist in the classroom.
Macharia warned that Anyone who permits or employs an unregistered teacher shall be guilty of an offence and liable to a fine of not less than Sh100,000 or imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years, or both.
The commission can easily impose an interdiction on a teacher for seven major reasons.
They are instances of immoral behavior, neglect of duty, absenteeism, desertion of duty, insubordination, mismanagement of public funds, and criminal convictions.
Teachers who are found guilty are deregistered, which means they can no longer teach.
According to TSC Act sections 30 (4) and (5), as well as section 23, a teacher who has been removed from the register may not be reinstated unless the commission directs it.
TSC de-registered 43 teachers in October of last year for various professional misconducts and warned private and public schools not to hire them.
In May 2021, 52 teachers were fired after being de-registered for indiscipline, and another 50 were fired in November 2020 for the same reason.
Sexual intercourse, sodomy, lesbianism, and sexual harassment are all examples of immoral behavior.
