To address the severe shortage of tutors in schools, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has launched a nationwide recruitment drive.
The commission has announced 5,000 new vacancies as well as another 8,230 to replace teachers who have left the service due to natural attrition.
3,972 of the newly hired teachers will be assigned to various secondary schools to help with President Uhuru Kenyatta’s 100% transition policy.
1,000 teachers will be assigned to primary schools, while 28 tutors will be assigned to teacher training colleges.
They will be hired on a permanent and pensionable basis.

Affirmative action will be used in the recruitment drive, which will target schools in Mandera, Garissa, and Wajir counties.
The county of North Eastern is set to receive 1000 teachers.
The Nancy Macharia-led commission announced plans to hire 764 primary school teachers and 80 secondary school teachers in a re-advertisement published on Monday, June 27.
The positions are permanent and pensionable.
TSC also re-advertised 386 positions on contractual terms, 114 for primary schools and 272 for secondary schools, to fill vacancies in Garissa, Mandera, and Wajir.
“To qualify for recruitment, a candidate should be a Kenyan citizen, be hailing from Garissa, Mandera or Wajir Counties, be teaching under Board of Management in Garissa, Mandera or Wajir Counties,” read part of the notice.
How to Apply
Paper applications are not accepted by the Teachers’ Service Commission. All their applications are only submitted through their online portal.
According to the TSC portal, all sections must be completed with the requested information.
Applicants must also scan and attach only the required documents. Original documents should be scanned and uploaded only once.
Expat teachers are required to submit a letter of clearance from the Ministry of Education Vetting Committee.

“It is a serious offense to willfully give false information to the Teachers Service Commission.
“The law provides that any person convicted of the offense may be fined up to Ksh 100,000 or imprisoned for Twelve (12) months or both according to Section 44 of TSC Act No. 20 of 2012,” TSC states.
