TSC Requests List of Teachers, Schools Missing From Online Appraisal System
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) chief executive officer, Dr. Nancy Macharia, has requested that county directors provide a list of teachers who have yet to be captured in the system.
TSC boss is also requesting a list of schools that may be missing in the Teacher Professional Appraisal and Development (TPAD) system.
According to Dr. Macharia, the online system makes it easier for teachers to upload evidence of their performance and improves objectivity in ratings, which informs key decisions about teachers’ career progression.
TSC launched the system in 2016. Initially, manual evaluations were used, making it difficult to track teachers’ class attendance and performance levels.
Teachers must log into the TSC system and appraise themselves before submitting completed forms to TSC. They are then appraised by their respective school heads and TSC field officers.
According to research conducted last year by the University of Nairobi Enterprises and Services Limited and submitted to the commission, the use of TPAD improved teacher competencies and accountability.
The use of the system also promoted feedback between instructional supervision and teachers, according to the report.
TSC received 319,584 completed and submitted online forms from 341,760 teachers in both primary and secondary schools who logged into the system.
Lamu and Nairobi Counties received the most complete appraisals, with 99.36% and 99.05%, respectively.
In its April 2014 Teacher Performance and Integrity Survey, TSC discovered an increase in school absenteeism.
The commission also intends to empower teachers, restore their lost glory, and boost public trust and support for the profession.

Concerns have been raised over the years about low teacher performance and increased teacher absenteeism in schools, which has resulted in poor results.
According to data, the use has reduced teacher absenteeism, increased accountability, and improved the quality of teaching in schools.
