TSC certificate replacement requirements and procedure

A non-refundable fee of Kshs. 2055 is required, as well as a bank payment slip and identification documents. In the event of a name change, an affidavit or marriage certificate is required.

How to replace a lost TSC certificate

The TSC certificate, like any other document, can be lost or misplaced, making it impossible for the teacher to access critical services.

There is no need to be concerned if you have misplaced, lost, damaged, or changed your name.

TSC provides opportunities for replacement in cases of misplacement, loss, damage, or change of name. To replace it, follow the steps outlined below.

  • Before you begin the exercise, scan all of the documents because you will need to upload them. 
  • Go to the website. 
  • Enter your ID number and last name. 
  • Click on the next button and follow the steps until the procedure is completed.

Teacher Deregistration 

The commission has the authority to deregister a teacher if he or she: 

  • Dies 
  • obtains the registration certificate in a fraudulent manner 
  • Has bad morals and has been convicted of a crime against the learner, including a sexual offense. 
  • Has been convicted of a felony that disqualifies him/her from being a teacher 
  • Is found unfit to teach as a result of disciplinary proceedings 
  • Suffers from a physical or mental disability that prevents him/her from performing the duties of a teacher. 

If you have the academic and professional qualifications to teach in a Kenyan classroom, you should start the application process for a TSC registration certificate.

TSC Number/Certificate Registration For First Time Applicants

Article 237 of the Teacher Service Commission Act of 2012 requires the commission to register all qualified teachers before they can teach in any public or private school.

Within 30 days, all teachers who meet the registration requirements are issued a TSC registration certificate bearing the TSC number.

Every year, the commission publishes the names of all registered teachers.

TSC Certificate Registration Requirements

Before beginning the registration process, make sure to scan the following documents:

  • Copies of academic and professional certificates that have been Copies of academic and professional certificates that have been Certified
  • copies of academic and professional certificates
  • National ID card
  • a bank slip
  • one passport-sized photo
  • KRA pin certificate
  • Certificate of Good Conduct
  • GP69 form
  • Non-Kenyans require entry and work permits.

Obtain a bank slip after making direct payment of Kshs. 1055 to the TSC account.

(Kshs. 1000 is a non-refundable registration fee and Kshs. 55 is the bank commission charge).

How to Pay the TSC Registration Fee Through MPESA 

Did you know that you can pay the TSC registration fee via MPESA rather than going to the bank to deposit the money? 

Follow the steps below to pay your fees via MPESA. 

  • Navigate to your phone’s MPESA menu. 
  • Choose the Pay Bills option. 
  • Enter the business number, which is 547700. 
  • Enter the account number, 01001000905001. 
  • Enter your pin number 
  • Wait for the confirmation message to arrive.

How to apply for TSC registration online

TSC online registration is typically completed online, after which the teacher is given a registration certificate bearing the TSC number. 

  • To register for the TSC certificate online, follow the steps below. 
  • Go to the TSC service portal. 
  • Click the Registration/Account Activation tab. You will be taken to a new page.
  • Fill out the form with your personal and employment information, such as your TSC number, full names as they appear on your National ID, ID number, KRA Tax PIN, date of birth, and so on. 
  • Create and confirm the new password you’ll use to access the system. Where applicable, include scanned copies of original documents.

How to Check the Status of Your TSC Registration 


If you applied for a TSC registration certificate, you can check the status of your application by following the steps outlined below. 

  • Go to the TSC’s online services portal. 
  • You will be asked to enter your ID or passport number. 
  • When you click the go tab, you will receive an instant confirmation of your TSC registration.

TSC Number/Certificate Registration Denial


A teacher’s registration may be denied if he or she:

  • Lacks the necessary academic and professional credentials 
  • Has bad morals and has been convicted of a crime against the learner, including a sexual offense. 
  • Has been convicted of a felony that disqualifies him/her from being a teacher Is involved in activities that are detrimental to the country’s peace, good governance, and order. 
  • Suffers from a mental or physical condition that prevents him/her from carrying out the duties of a teacher.
