Three New Education CAS; What We Know
The Kenyan Ministry of Education is set to receive three new Chief Administrative Secretaries (CAS) – Elly Stephen Loldepe, Mark Lomunokol, and Anab Mohammed Gure. All three of the appointees are former elected officials, with two of them having lost the 2022 elections.
Elly Stephen Loldepe ran as an independent candidate in the Samburu West Parliamentary seat but lost to Naisuula Lesuuda after garnering -6,956 votes. He previously served as the Maralal ward MCA from 2013 to 2017.
Mark Lomunokol is the former Kacheliba MP, having served between 2013 and 2022. However, he lost the 2022 election to Titus Lotee, receiving 17,963 votes to Lotee’s 20,073.
Anab Mohammed Gure is the former Garissa County Woman Representative. Although she did not vie in 2022, she decided to focus on Kenya Kwanza campaigns.
The Head of Public Service Felix Koskei released a statement on Thursday, revealing that the list of nominees for the 50 CAS positions had been submitted. The nominees will now be vetted by the National Assembly before being appointed by the President.
Regional balancing, loyalty, gender balance, and expertise are some of the key factors that are expected to inform how the President picked the candidates. The President was keen not to disappoint his allies, some of whom played key roles during the campaigns that saw him elected.
In addition to the new CAS appointments, Ann Mwangi, Nicholas Rioba, and Edwin Wandambusi have been nominated to serve in the office of the Deputy President.
Former Nominated MP Isaac Mwaura, Sharif Ali, and Rehema Hassan, once approved by parliament, will serve in the office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary.
