Team University: What We Know About Sakaja’s university.
Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja has come out to say that he has a Bachelor of Science in Management degree from Team University in Uganda, despite public scrutiny and a complaint filed against him at the IEBC tribunal.
Sakaja, who is running for the Nairobi governorship, stated in a reply affidavit to the IEBC on Monday that he received his degree from Team University, a duly registered higher learning institution in Uganda.
“My qualifications and academic credentials are not in doubt having affirmed through a lawful process,” reads Sakaja’s papers in part.
Sakaja’s Team University is not well-known in Kenya, so here’s what we know about it.
He has also denied using the names mentioned in the complaint, claiming that he is not Johnson Koskei Sakaja, as stated in the complaint.
“The complaints herein are legally incompetent, fatally defective having been lodged outside the prescribed statutory timeliness,”he says.
While requesting that the tribunal dismiss the complaint against him, Sakaja claims that the allegations that he did not graduate from Team University are unfounded, claiming that there are other pages of his graduation certificate that were omitted.
Dennis Gakuu Wahome has sued Sakaja for allegedly not having the required educational qualifications.
10 Documents CUE Now Wants As Proof Sakaja Attended Team University
Before allowing Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja to run in the upcoming August elections, the Commission for University Education (CUE) is requesting at least ten documents from him as proof that he attended Team University.
Sakaja, who is running for Nairobi Governor, is in a political quagmire after CUE revoked recognition of his university degree, leaving his governorship bid hanging by a thread.
CUE Chairperson Chacha Nyaigotti stated at a press conference on Friday that the commission had opened an investigation into the authenticity of Sakaja’s degree in response to public concerns.
According to the commission, investigations into the matter are ongoing, and it has written to Sakaja requesting a set of documents proving his graduation from Team University.
The following documents are required:
- His enrollment in the course
- A letter of acceptance from the university
- Registration proof, such as a student ID
- System of Credit Accumulation and Transfer (ATS)
- Bachelor of Science in Management Course Description (External)
- Course Units Completed
- Transcripts
- Schedules for examinations
- His name is on the graduation booklet.
- Receipts for the following:
a. Application cost
b. Tuition charges
c. Convocation and graduation
d. The names of the lecturers who taught him in some of the courses.
f. Any communication with university personnel (academic and administrative) regarding his university course.
g. Graduation photograph while wearing a gown,
h. Proof of completion of the required credit hours
Sakaja has also been invited to a meeting on Monday, June 20 to provide additional information that can aid in the investigations.
Prof. Chacha also stated that the commission has written to Team University requesting additional information on the matter.
Meanwhile, Prof. Chacha has warned universities against participating in the issuance of fake degrees, threatening to blacklist any institution found guilty.
“The problem of fraudulent degree certificates has become endemic and bears a huge reputational risk to the University academic programmes.
“We shall work tirelessly to guard against this threat to our education system and as a Commission we will blacklist any university which colludes on the issuance of fraudulent degrees,” said Prof. Chacha.
