Uhuru To Award Best Teachers On Madaraka Day.During this year’s Madaraka Day celebrations, President Uhuru Kenyatta has vowed to honor outstanding teachers throughout the country.This year’s festivities will be Uhuru’s final before he leaves office in August. “I want to reiterate once again that my administration recognises the important role that teachers play in advancing our development agenda,” the President said.“In this regard, as Madaraka Day 2022 approaches, I look forward to bestowing national honors to outstanding and transformational teachers in the education sector, as well as those who have distinguished themselves by exceptional service to Kenya."On Wednesday, he spoke at the Sheikh Zayed Hall in Mombasa as part of the Kenya Secondary Schools Heads Association (Kessha) 45th annual conference.“And in this regard, as the Madaraka Day 2022 celebrations approach, I look forward to awarding national honours to outstanding and transformative teachers in the education sector, those who have distinguished themselves through superlative services to Kenya.”Through Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha, the Head of State instructed Kessha chairman Kahi Indimuli to transmit the names of acceptable nominees to the National Awards and Honours Committee.He praised several of the teachers who have helped put Kenya on the map, including Peter Tabichi of Keriko Secondary School in Nakuru, who won the Global Teacher Award in 2019.Uhuru also recognized Erick Ademba of Asumbi Girls Secondary School in Homa Bay, who was named Continental Teacher of the Year in 2019 by the African Union.In 2020, Jane Kimiti, the main principle of Othaya Girls in Nyeri, will receive the honor.The President also praised teachers for their perseverance in ensuring that students continued to study despite the government’s decision to close schools from March 2020 to January 2021 while the country battled the Covid-19 outbreak.ALSO READ:According to him, the epidemic widened education disparity and increased teen pregnancies and school dropouts.He added that Kenya is depending on teachers to assist learners recover, to guarantee that all those who have dropped out return to school, and to renew the momentum of the education sector.Uhuru To Award Best Teachers On Madaraka Day
