They left their teaching jobs to enter the murky world of politics.

Teachers have been elected as governors, senators, MPs, and MCAs in the four North Rift counties of Elgeyo Marakwet, West Pokot, Uasin Gishu, and Nandi.

West Pokot governor-elect Simon Kachapin won the West Pokot gubernatorial seat with 86,476 votes.

Tinderet MP-elect Julius Melly (Nandi County), and Phyllis Bartoo are among the teachers who won (Moiben MP-elect in Uasin Gishu).

Kachapin was the senior principal at Ortum Boys High School in West Pokot before leaving to run for governor of the county in 2013.

Kachapin said he plans to resurrect school feeding programs for ECDE learners across the county in order to increase enrollment.
