Teacher Charged With Defiling Student Over Past Papers.
A Kibera court has charged a teacher with defiling a 14-year-old schoolgirl in violation of the Sexual Offences Act.
Kipkemoi, Sammy Melly was charged in front of Kibera’s senior principal magistrate, Phillip Mutua, and pleaded not guilty.
According to the charge sheet, the offense was committed on various dates between October 2021 and July 2022 at Nairobi aquariums in the Lang’ata sub-county of Nairobi County.
He was also charged with committing an indecent act with a minor in violation of the Sexual Offences Act on the second count.
The teacher allegedly committed the crime after the girl went to his house to pick up some past papers, according to the detectives.
He denied the charges and pleaded with the court, through his lawyer, for his release on cash bail.
The lawyer requested that the court grant his client a lenient bond term, claiming that the accused was not a flight risk.
The magistrate released him on Sh300,000 bond and ordered that the case be heard later this month for a preliminary hearing.
This comes days after the Teachers Service Commission Deregistered 73 teachers over violation of its code of conduct.
Effective immediately, 73 teachers will be barred from working in any educational institution.
According to a notice issued by the Teachers Service Commission, which published a list of the 73 teachers affected.
The notice states, “Pursuant to Section 30 of the TSC Act (2012), the Commission wishes to publish names of teachers who have been removed from the Register of Teachers.”
