Ministry Announces 10-Month Teacher Training
George Magoha, Cabinet Secretary for Education, has announced a new 10-month training program for teachers who will be in charge of the upcoming Grade 7.
This comes amid concerns about the introduction of junior high school education, which consists of Grades 7 and 8, and which forms the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).
Magoha stated on Sunday, February 14, at Kapsabet Girls High School in Nandi County, that the 10-month training will take place between the months of February and December.
He also stated that the three national examinations for Grade 6, Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE), and Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) are ready to be administered.
He noted that the government is continuous, and whoever comes to take over will find everything ready, and children will be safe.
“We are leaving everything in good state as far as our children welfare is concerned,” he assured.
During the visit, Magoha also directed all contractors to complete the 6,400 classes currently under construction by March 7, 2022.
He mentioned that the classes should be completed in time for national exams to be held without interruption.
Magoha also revealed that funds for construction and literary materials had been set aside.
“We are targeting to build 6,400 CBC classrooms during the first phase which we shall complete on that stipulated time, and the second phase should start immediately after we finish marking exams which is about the 1st week of May.

Magoha announced that everything is already in place for Grade 6 adding that the books have been printed and distributed.
He also said that teachers have been trained, and all other necessary materials have been prepared.
The training is aimed at 60,000 tutors in total. with over 120,000 teachers already trained in Grade 6
