Kilifi County Distributes 50M Flour to School to Addresses Children Malnutrition

The Kilifi County government has taken action to address the adverse effects of drought on school children by distributing Sh50 million worth of porridge flour to 812 public early childhood development education centers (ECDEs) across the county.

This is part of the School Feeding Program launched by Governor Gideon Mung’aro in the previous year, and the flour is expected to last the entire current school term.

The Deputy Governor Flora Chibule received the flour last week, and during the launch of the distribution exercise, she emphasized that early childhood education is a crucial stage of human development and the county has given it special attention to ensure learners are in good condition as the county struggles with the drought calamity.

Chibule said that the feeding program has greatly helped in retaining children in school and reduced absenteeism, improving the academic performance and health of the children.

The county is also working to fill the shortage of ECDE teachers across public primary schools to enhance learning.

Chibule further added that the county is looking into ways of making the feeding program sustainable, especially in the wake of prolonged drought across the county.

Kilifi County is among the regions hardest hit by the effects of drought, with school children experiencing malnutrition due to a lack of food and water.

The county government’s initiative will provide much-needed relief to the affected children, ensuring they receive at least one nutritious meal a day.

The feeding program aims to address the problem of malnutrition and increase school attendance, which will ultimately improve the educational outcomes of children in the county.

The county’s efforts to refurbish ECDE centers and staff them with adequate personnel will enhance the delivery of quality childhood education.

This move is critical in ensuring that children receive quality education from an early age, which lays the foundation for their future academic and professional success.

By prioritizing childhood education and addressing the challenges facing school children, Kilifi County is taking positive steps towards improving the welfare and prospects of its citizens.
