Teacher Hits Student With Shoe for Speaking Vernacular, Causing Head Injury
A female teacher at Kabolecho Secondary School in Transmara East is accused of causing a head injury to a Form Three student after allegedly hitting her with a high-heeled shoe.
The incident reportedly occurred when the victim was caught by the teacher speaking in vernacular and was taken to the staffroom. The student attempted to explain why she was speaking in vernacular, but the teacher allegedly struck her on the head with the shoe.
Three other teachers who were present in the staffroom also reportedly joined in the assault on the student. As a result of the attack, the student sustained a head injury and was taken to Ndanai-sub-county hospital in Bomet for treatment.
She was issued a P3 form, which is typically used to document injuries sustained from assault, as police launched an investigation into the incident. The exact motive behind the teacher’s actions remains unclear.
In another disturbing incident, a 12-year-old pupil named Mike Wanjala at Namanjalala Primary School tragically died after allegedly being subjected to punishment by his teacher.
The teacher reportedly ordered Wanjala to run around the school playground 13 times as a form of retribution for allegedly breaking a goalpost. However, after completing the punishment, Wanjala reportedly fainted and began vomiting blood.
The teacher then instructed the school’s security guard to take Wanjala home, as his parents were not present. Wanjala’s mother, Catherine Wanjala, arrived at the hospital an hour later to find her son in critical condition and receiving medical attention.
Despite efforts to save him, Wanjala passed away at 11pm while still under medical care. His father, Geoffrey Wanjala, expressed deep sorrow and described his son as a bright and disciplined student.
These incidents highlight the concerning issue of violence against students in schools, allegedly perpetrated by teachers. Such behavior is unacceptable and goes against the fundamental principles of education, which should prioritize the safety and well-being of students.
It is crucial for authorities to thoroughly investigate these cases and hold those responsible for such acts accountable for their actions. Ensuring a safe and nurturing learning environment for all students should be a top priority for educational institutions and communities alike.
