Global Undergraduate Exchange Program (Global UGRAD) welcomes future leaders to the United States to experience U.S. higher education, acquire essential professional skills, and investigate other cultures and beliefs.
The U.S. Department of State provides funds for the Global Undergraduate Exchange Program, which is operated by World Learning.

Since 2008, World Learning has provided approximately 2,500 Global UGRAD students with this opportunity.
Participants depart the United States equipped to become leaders in their respective fields and communities.
Alumni of Global UGRAD go on to acquire Fulbright grants, secure prominent foreign internships, and work in industry and government in their native regions.

UC Berkeley MasterCard Scholarships for African Students (Study In USA: 2023)
The objective of the UC Berkeley MasterCard Scholarships is to cultivate a cohort of ethical, enterprising, and dynamic young leaders in Africa who will drive and lead socioeconomic progress.
To date, the Scholars Program has pledged over $1.2 billion to fund the education and leadership development of over 40,000 young people.
The University of California, Berkeley has collaborated with The Mastercard Foundation in a global network of education institutions and non-profit organizations that think education is a catalyst for social and economic progress.

Scholarship Details:
From 2012 to 2020, the Program at the Center for African Studies(link is external) at UC Berkeley has supported over 120 students, both undergraduate and graduate students.
Students pursuing doctoral degrees are ineligible to participate in this Program.
Through the year 2030, the Program at UC Berkeley will sponsor approximately 108 master’s degree candidates.
To be considered for the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program, candidates for a master’s degree must first submit an application through the university’s standard admissions process.
If students match the qualifying conditions, they will be invited to apply for the Scholarship after applying for admission to a degree program.

This covers Africans who are refugees or displaced within the African continent and are citizens of a Sub-Saharan African nation.
This award is not available to inhabitants of North African nations. Those possessing dual citizenship, asylum, refugee, or permanent resident status in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, or the European Union are ineligible.
Academic excellence: To be eligible for the Scholarship, all prospective Scholars must first be admitted to a master’s degree program at UC Berkeley.
Academic excellence is an essential admissions requirement for the university.
Demonstrating leadership potential, the Program seeks individuals who are motivated to developing the skills and mindsets associated with transformative leadership, i.e., leadership that engages others in an ethical manner to create meaningful and sustainable change.
This scholarship is intended for exceptionally gifted persons from socioeconomically challenged backgrounds who might not otherwise have access to quality higher education.
Having exhibited a dedication to giving back to your town, country, or continent: We seek well-rounded students who participate in extracurricular activities.
Some may be directly relevant to your subject of study, but other topics (social, economic, political) that you are working on and are passionate about may also be included.

Having expressed the desire and intention to return to your home country upon completion of your studies, we seek students who are engaged with and passionate about issues affecting their communities and who will use their education at UC Berkeley to better equip themselves with the knowledge and training to address these issues upon their return.
The objective of the Program is to enable Scholars to return home after establishing valuable professional connections through internships, academic training, and job placements.
Although important work can be accomplished from abroad, Scholars are expected to return home after gaining these connections.
