VU Amsterdam Fellowship Programme (Study In Netherlands: 2023)

The VU Amsterdam Fellowship Programme provides exceptional prospective students from outside the EU/EEA with the chance to pursue a Master’s degree at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.

VU Amsterdam has invested nearly one million euros in recruiting highly motivated and exceptional students.

Scholarship Details:

The VUFP scholarship may be awarded for a one- or two-year Master’s degree study. The scholarship will only be extended for the second year of a two-year Master’s course if 100 percent of the ECTS requirements for the first year have been met.

Students enrolled in a two-year Master’s program who did not get a VUFP scholarship in 2022/2023 are ineligible to apply for a VUFP scholarship in 2023/2024.

Requirements for the Scholarship: To be considered for the scholarship;

  • Hold a passport from outside the EU/EEA and are therefore ineligible for the discounted tuition rate.
  • You are not a citizen of the Netherlands.
  • Prove your academic excellence (GPA equivalent to a Dutch 8).
  • Conditionally or unconditionally admitted to the first year of a full-time English-taught Master’s program beginning in September 2023 at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.
    • Students beginning in February are ineligible,
    • Collaborative programs where VU Amsterdam does not oversee the admissions procedure are excluded.
  • The degree you are seeking admission with was not earned in the Netherlands.
  • You are not required to complete a preparatory program before beginning your Master’s degree.
  • Diversity is one of our guiding principles. Therefore, we expect that a large number of students from countries underrepresented on our campus (fewer than 10 students enrolled) will apply for the VUFP.

Scholarship Duration and Benefit

The VUFP grant only covers tuition costs. It provides no additional allowance for education or living expenses, such as rent, food, or insurance.

When you apply for the VUFP scholarship, you immediately apply for the HSP award. There is no separate application required.

HSP is a payment towards living expenses. It is either 5,000 or 10,000 EUR for the duration of your studies. Please observe:

The HSP grant is only available for the initial year of study. Even if you are enrolled in a two-year program, you will not be eligible for the HSP scholarship for your second year of study.
We offer between 20 and 25 HSP scholarships. Few VUFP recipients will receive the HSP scholarship.
