The Nation Media Group donated books to teachers, parents, and students at a primary school in Laikipia on Friday.

The supplementary and revision materials are intended to assist Uaso Narok Primary School students in improving their reading culture, and comprehension, and having appropriate content for various grades.

The books will also be used by the school’s 465 students to improve their performance in various subjects.

Aside from learning materials, NMG also implements programs aimed at improving the living conditions of students in schools, such as addressing jigger infestation in institutions.

“Apart from our main role of educating and informing, we are committed to uplifting the society that we live in,” Mr. Barasa said.

He added that the company was keen to drive the education agenda through the distribution of learning materials and running education programs.

NMG also operates a Newspaper in Education program, which includes the publication of exams in the Taifa Leo and Daily Nation newspapers.

Mwangi Githaiga, the head teacher at Uaso Narok, praised the book donation, saying it will help students perform better.

Mr. Githaiga stated that NMG’s continued support has helped improve the school’s mean grade to 224 last year, up from 212 four years ago when NMG first visited the school.

NMG previously assisted the school in eradicating jigger infestation among its students, which, according to Mr. Githaiga, increased enrolment by 20%.

Ms. Lucy Amodoi, a parent, stated that due to poverty, most families were unable to afford revision materials for their children.

“The government provides textbooks, but they are hardly enough for all the pupils, and the school has no funds to budget for more,” Ms. Amodoi said.

Benjamin Eregai, the area assistant chief, emphasized the importance of parents taking their children to school, stating that the state wants all children to attend school.

Mr. Barasa asked the school to look after the books so that more students could benefit in the future.

The NMG’s gesture at Uaso Narok Primary School comes ahead of a golf tournament in Nyahururu on Saturday, where the company will also host its clients.
